Due to the rising prices of medicines in the external market, pharmaceutical companies are directly selling medicines to the public at company prices starting from July 17, under the guidance of the Ministry of Commerce.
“Currently, starting from the 17th, we will sell based on the needs of the people. We haven’t set an end date yet,” said Dr. Win Maw Phyo, the central executive of the Myanmar Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment Entrepreneurs Association, to The Daily Eleven.
In accordance with the Ministry of Commerce’s guidance, the Myanmar Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment Entrepreneurs Association is leading this initiative where pharmaceutical companies directly sell medicines to consumers.
“The association, with the guidance of the Ministry of Commerce, is organizing this initiative so that consumers can purchase medicines at fair and reasonable prices, ensuring there is no shortage,” said Dr. Win Maw Phyo.
At this exhibition, medicines are sold at direct company prices, not at discounted prices, which allows consumers to purchase them more affordably. Some companies have set special discounts, offering promotions such as "buy one, get one free" on certain medicines.
“I bought medicines this morning at very reasonable prices. Decolgen is sold for 2200 Kyats at this exhibition, whereas it costs 3000 Kyats in outside shops. Mixagrip is sold for 1100 Kyats here, while it is 1500 Kyats or more outside. Other medicines, including those for diabetes, are also being sold directly by the companies,” said one visitor who purchased medicines at the exhibition.
Under the Ministry of Commerce’s guidance, the Myanmar Pharmaceuticals and Medical Equipment Entrepreneurs Association is organizing a direct sale exhibition of medicines by pharmaceutical companies to the public. This will be held at the Yangon Region Head Office of the Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization at the corner of Merchant Road and 30th Street in Yangon. It will run from July 17, 2024, every Monday to Saturday (excluding Sundays and public holidays) from 9 AM to 4 PM.
It has been announced that the public can check and purchase the necessary medicines for their health at this exhibition.
“We organized this exhibition to show that although people say medicine prices are rising outside, in reality, pharmaceutical companies are distributing at reasonable prices. This exhibition allows the public to see and experience these fair prices firsthand,” said Dr. Win Maw Phyo.
