Myanma Railways (MR) resumed the train services on the Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin railway section, which was temporarily suspended due to flooding, from August 20, sources said.
During the rainy season, it has been raining heavily in the Ayeyawady Region since July 27 due to floods, and the Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin railway section has been affected in some places in Kyaunggon, Kangyidaunt and Yekyi townships. Due to the water erosion of some of the train bridge's piers and docks, train trips were temporarily suspended, and water watchmen were assigned day and night to watch over the water. Railway officials and workers used RGCs to place stones and strength works of railways and bridges were inspected daily.
Currently, according to the inspection on the August 19, the water level in the Zarat Hla-Yekyi section has dropped to about one inch below the surface of the track, and according to the inspection of the strength of the track and the bridge, trains can be run through, and the RGCs have been tested.
After that, the section was re-opened at 9 am on August 19, and from August 20, the No.181 down express train, which was temporarily stopped on the Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin railway section, was run from Pathein to Kyangin and No.182 up express train was run from Hinthada to Pathein as well.
Similarly, the Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin up and down trains will resume normal operations from August 21. Myanmar Railways is planned with a goal in mind to further improve railways and infrastructure to facilitate public travel and freight transportation and the upgrading projects of the railway transportation system.
