Over 800,000 foreign visitors enter Myanmar via Tachilek border this year

More than 800,000 foreign tourists entered Myanmar through the Tachilek border from January to September 5 this year, according to sources from the ministry of hotels and tourism. 

Through the border, foreigners such as Thais, third country citizens and Chinese, Japanese and Korean citizens who are granted visa exemption. 

Up to September 5, 776,619 Thais and 10,379 third country citizens made one-day trips, 265 Thais day-time trips to Lanttaung, 7,838 travellers to Mongphyat and Kengtung and 43,664 travellers who are granted visa free totalling 838,765. 

According to the ministry of labour, immigration and population, the number of foreign visitors entering Myanmar via international airports, ports and borders from January to July this year increased by over 500,000 compared to the same period of last year. 

There were 1,970,013 foreign visitors from January to July in 2018 while there were 2,474,311 in the same period of 2019 (this year). 

Myanmar received 3,551,428 foreign tourists in 2018 and 3,443,133 in 2017, according to the ministry of hotels and tourism.
