Over 200 damaged schools in Mon State to be reconstructed

MAWLAMYAING- More than over 200 damaged schools will be reconstructed and some schools will be moved to new places in Mon State due to natural disasters, according to the Education Office in Mon State.

“Fences of the schools were destroyed due to natural disasters. Moreover, natural disasters destroyed the water supply system at the 32 schools. Roofs of some schools were also blown out. There are nine schools which must be renovated as small scale. We are going to fulfill school furniture at 104 damaged schools,” said Dr Cho Cho Myat Aung, Director from Mon State Education Office.

She also said that the Basic Education Middle School (Branch) including staff quarters in Ye Township, Mon State, was damaged completely due to the flooding. In Ye Township, there were 9 post primary schools which are dangerously collapse. So, the schools are involved in the damaged list. Some schools in Paung Township must be moved to the new places. Nevertheless, no one was injured due to the natural disaster occurred in August.

“Although water level decreased, mudslides struck the schools. So, we already carried out the cleaning services at the schools as well as all we opened the schools and then we are going to launch the substitute teaching at the holidays,” said Dr Cho Cho Myat Aung.

Totaling 679 schools were closed temporarily in Mon State due to the natural disasters which killed 18 students and seven students were injured.
