More than 130,000 rice bags from Myanmar are stranded in warehouses of Kyaigaung and Muse due to lack of pest free certificates, according to Muse rice wholesale shop.

The necessary documents were not issued by the Irrigation Department in time.  Although it was more than a month, it had been delayed in issuing over the necessary certificates. So, over 100,000 rice bags were stranded in Kyaigaung and over 30000 rice bags in Muse were stranded and sale of rice was stopped.

“As the required documents were delayed issuing by the Irrigation Department, we couldn’t transport these bags to Shwe Li. Business has totally come to a stop due to lack of certificates,” said vice-chairman Min Thein from the Muse rice wholesale shop.

Currently, a rice bag of Shin Thiri Thone costs Ywan 140, a rice bag of  Thukha costs Ywan 135, a rice bag of Nga Sein costs Ywan 135, and a rice bag of broken rice costs Ywan 128 while sugar was exported 10 trucks per day.

Due to COVID-19, roads in China were closed and rice business has come to a stop. But, depending on China’s demand, rice, broken rice, maize, beans and pulses were sold again in the first week of March at the 105 mile border gate.
