Over 1.1 m households to enjoy electricity on completion of NEP-1 next year

Upon completion of national electrification plan-1, electricity can be provided for over 1.1 million households across Myanmar in September 2021, said Deputy Minister for Electricity and Energy Khin Maung Win.

Under NEP-1, there are two phases. In phase-I, it is targeted to electrify 5,080 villages with over 620,000 households in September this year.

Phase-II covers 4,700 villages with over 530,000 households. Therefore, over 1.1 million households will be electrified by September 2021 on the completion of NEP-1.

According to the ministry, NEP-1 is being implemented with a loan of US$310 million from the World Bank. Till January 17 this year, 1,091 villages had been electrified.

Upon completion of NEP-1, 626,757 households in 5,080 villages will have access to electricity. Till August 2019, 5,066,842 of 10,877,832 households across the country had access to electricity accounting for 46.58 percent.

Percentage of electricity being supplied to regions and states is 60.16 percent in Kachin State, 94.75 percent in Kayah State, 32.69 percent in Kayin State, 26.55 percent in Chin State, 41.76 percent in Sagaing Region, 18.57 percent in Taninthayi Region, 45.83 percent in Bago Region (East), 39.02 percent in Bago Region (West), 32.37 percent in Magway Region, 55.34 percent in Mon State, 25.17 percent in Rakhine State, 45.76 percent in southern Shan State, 33.57 percent in northern Shan State, 13.41 percent in eastern Shan State, 19.01 percent in Ayeyawady Region, 58.08 percent in Nay Pyi Taw, 87.76 percent in Yangon Region and 63.52 percent in Mandalay Region.
