The Myawady-Mae Sot No. 1 Friendship Bridge in the Myanmar-Thai border, which was temporarily closed due to the fighting that took place near Myawady Trade Zone and Thingannyinaung on the morning of March 25, and was reopened at about 10:30 am, sources said.
Due to the fighting, the movement of people and vehicles to the Thai side was blocked, but they were allowed to travel again at about 10:30 in the morning, according to the locals.
"It has been closed to traffic since morning, and the byroads leading to the bridge have also been closed. Security has been tightened near the bridge. We don't know when it will be reopened," said a person lived near the bridge.
In addition, Bogyoke Road section located on Bayintnaung Road, which is leading to the district administration office and the district police station, is temporarily closed.
The Myanmar-Thailand No. 1 Friendship Bridge was closed for three years due to COVID-19 and was opened on January 12, 2023 at around 8:30 am.
A Myanmar citizen lived in Thailand said that because of the fighting that took place near the town of Myawady, there is increased security and surveillance on the Thai side.
