Those belonging to the General Strike Committee (GSC) who claim to be from the National League for Democracy have not been assigned duties by the NLD itself to join the committee, said Khin San Hlaing, member of the NLD’s central committee.

She was replying to the media question during a press conference on a recent police break-in of the party’s head office in Bahan Township, Yangon.

“They might be NLD members. But we didn’t officially assign duties to them to join the committee. So we will not take responsibility for those belonging to GSC though they say they are from the NLD,” said Khin San Hlaing.

The GSC was established on February 20 with three common goals: fight against military dictatorship, abolishment of the 2008 constitution and emergence of a federal democratic union.

According to the GSC’s Facebook page, the committee is formed with 29 organizations including the NLD.
