The new political party which is to be jointly established by the MPs elected in the 1990 General Election and other political forces, will run for seats in the 2020 General Election, according to a press conference held in Botahtaung Township in Yangon on April 5.

Former MP David Hla Myint, Secretary of the 1990 elected MPs said: “ One-third of the 1990 elected MPs will include in the new party. They (former MPs elected in the 1990 election) will not run for the seats in the 2020 General Election and seven ethnic states. Only other party members will run for the seats in the coming election. The main objective of the party is to establish a federal, democratic Union.”

The 1990 elected MPs have long been engaging in the out-of-the-parliament politics in a constant manner. According to the current circumstances, it is impossible to work for the country’s move through the involvement in the out-of-the-parliament politics alone. We plan to do politics inside and outside of the parliament harmoniously, he added.

The new party will make the major alliance with the United Nationalities Alliance (UNA). Currently, there is no plan to join hands with the ruling National League for Democracy. The name of the new party will be announced in the coming week. Plan is under way to register as a political party before the Thingyan holidays.

The group of the 1990 elected MPs prefer to rewrite the 2008 Constitution rather than the amendment. The new party will include ethnics parties which are the member of the Committee Representing the People's Parliament (CRPP), the United National Democracy Organization (UNDO), other political forces outside the NLD and civil societies organizations (CSOs).
