MYAWADY-Over 170 Myanmar workers were fired from a Fruit Factory in Prachaup Khiri Khan Province, Hua Hin City, in southern Thailand, according to the sources.

The dismissed workers complained against their dismissal to the Labour Attache Office.

“We didn’t face the dismissal in previous years. We received a written notification of our dismissal in Thai language. We only have a letter of dismissal to show when applying for new obs. But, no factories will employ us. We faced difficulties because we are jobless. I have three children to feed and I support school costs for my child in Myanmar. And then, there has been difficulty of milk powder cost for my two babies in Thailand,” said Cho Cho Win who has 8-year work experience at the factory.

Myanmar Labour Attache San Maung together with Kyaw Zaw, General Secretary of Myanmar Overseas Employment Agencies Federation - MOEFA, the relevant agencies and Thai Labour Department in Prachaup Khiri Khan Province, went to the fruit factory and negotiated about labour dispute with the factory officials.

The Manager from Fruit Factory claimed that the factory suspended the operations about one month per year. In accordance with the Section (13) of Thailand’s new Labour Law, the employee cannot put on hold a labourer for more than 15 days, he or she must inform the Thai Regional Labour Department. Later, the dismissal order had been issued.

At present, Myanmar Labour Attache and the MOEFA are helping the dismissed workers aiming to create new job opportunities.

Mostly factory workers are MoU U Turn labours. In a factory, there are about 3,000 Certificate of Identity Card Holders.

Although the labours must stop about 40 days per year as they worked depending on the seasonal crops, now they are dismissed from the factory. If they want to work at the factory, they must be paid Bath 3,500. So, it changed into the disputes. The old labours were worked at the fruit factory at least 10 years ago.
