Myanmar to extract 295,000 tons of timber this FY

The ministry will extract 295,000 tons of teak and hardwood nationwide in 2019-2020 fiscal year, with Sagaing Region topping list with the extraction of over 60,000 tons, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.

In the current fiscal year, the ministry plans to extract 167,000 tons of teak and hardwood in Sagaing (west), 31,000 tons in Sagaing (east), 6,500 tons in the Union Territory, 17,000 tons in Kachin, 7,500 tons in Chin, 10,000 tons in Tanintharyi, 4,000 tons in Bago, 17,000 tons in Magway, 10,000 tons in Mandalay, 8,000 tons in Shan (north), 9,000 tons in Shan (East and South) and 5,000 tons in Ayeyawady Region. 

Currently, the timber extraction division under Myanmar Timber Enterprises is working on the timber extraction. The ministry will hire private companies for some timber extraction works in 2019-20 FY.
