Myanmar reports 29 new COVID-19 cases in latest testing round
Published 24 June 2025

The Ministry of Health announced that between June 15 and 22, health authorities tested a total of 2,199 suspected COVID-19 samples, confirming 29 new cases. This represents a 1.32% positivity rate for the reporting period.

Health officials confirmed there were no severe cases requiring intensive care and no COVID-related deaths during this timeframe. The ministry continues to maintain around-the-clock disease surveillance efforts across the country, though they note there is currently no cause for public health alarm.

Authorities specifically highlighted the need for vulnerable populations to receive booster vaccinations. This includes individuals over 60 years old, those with diabetes, chronic lung conditions, cancer patients, and pregnant women beyond their first trimester - all groups considered at higher risk for severe outcomes if infected.

Recent weeks have shown relatively stable but persistent transmission. The previous week (June 8-15) saw 52 positive cases detected from 2,285 tests (2.28% positivity rate), while the first week of June recorded 31 positives from 2,154 tests (1.44% positivity). In late May through June 1, all 17 detected cases were concentrated in townships within Yangon Region.
