According to the 2024 World Press Freedom Index released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Myanmar ranks 171st out of 180 countries.

On May 3, which marks World Press Freedom Day, RSF stated that the state of press freedom in Myanmar remains extremely dire.

The report by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) highlights that Myanmar is the second-worst country in the world for detaining journalists.

Additionally, the UK Embassy in Myanmar has issued a statement condemning the country's internet restrictions, which hinder the collection of critical information for humanitarian aid and delay real-time earthquake response efforts.

The UK government has denounced all forms of suppression against public access to information and demanded the immediate release of all detained journalists. The statement was released by the UK Embassy in Myanmar.
