Myanmar plans to export over 150,000 tons of rice remaining to be exported to Bangladesh within the specified period

The remaining 150,000 tons of rice to be exported from Myanmar to Bangladesh are being exported within the specified period, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

A memorandum of understanding on rice trade between the two governments of Myanmar and Bangladesh was signed in September 2022. According to the agreement, Myanmar will export and sell a maximum of 2.5 million tons of white rice and 50,000 tons of parboiled rice to Bangladesh every year starting from 2022 to 2027.

According to the MOU, Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) and Directorate General of Food from Bangladesh have signed a sales contract to export 200,000 tons of Emata 5% high quality rice, and have taken the necessary steps to export.

According to the contract, more than 20,000 tons of rice were shipped from Myanmar until October 31, 2022. Of the remaining rice to be exported, 15,000 tons of rice are still being shipped, and more than 150,000 tons of rice are being shipped within the specified period.

On September 7, 2017, the Minister for Commerce and the Minister for Food of Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding on rice trade between Myanmar and Bangladesh through the G to G system.

According to the MOU, Bangladesh agreed to buy 250,000 tons of white rice and 50,000 tons of parboiled rice from Myanmar annually from September 2017 to September 2022.

According to the memorandum of understanding, a sales contract was signed between the MRF and the Directorate General of Food under the Ministry of Food, Bangladesh. 100,000 tons of rice was shipped from Myanmar to Bangladesh for the first time in 2017. For the second time, 100,000 tons of rice was exported in 2021.

In order to export 200,000 tons of white rice from Myanmar to Bangladesh for the third time, a rice trade agreement was signed on September 8, 2022 between the MRF and the Directorate General of Food under the Ministry of Food.

Myanmar earned US$ 687.2 million from rice and broken rice exports from January to December 2021, according to a statement from the Ministry of Planning and Finance.

In 2021, Myanmar earned US$ 96.2 million in January, US$ 45 million in February US$ 42.4 million in March US$ 47.5 million in April, US$ 72.8 million in May, US$ 74.7 million in June, US$ 18 million in July, US$ 18.8 million in August, US$ 38.2 million in September, US$ 56.2 million in October, US$ 72.2 million in November and US$ 105.1 million in December from the export of rice and broken rice, totaling US$ 687.2 million.
