Myanmar marks 8th Anniversary of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement

Myanmar celebrated the Eighth Anniversary of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) today at the Myanmar International Convention Center (MICC-2) in Nay Pyi Taw.

The ceremony features saluting the State Flag, NCA music portrayals, and a video documentary titled “From the NCA to lasting peace", and the State Administration Council Chairman’s anniversary speech.

During the event, former Karen National Union (KNU) chairman Saw Mutu Sae Poe, Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) chairman General Yawd Serk, Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Deng Xijun, Deputy National Security Adviser of India Mr. Vikram Misri, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and former Union Minister U Aung Min on behalf of the witnesses who attended the NCA signing ceremony also made honorary speeches.

The anniversary celebration was attended by SAC Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, SAC Vice Chairman and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Vice-Senior General Soe Win and members, cabinet members, foreign diplomats, NCA stakeholders including the leaders of the Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) who signed the peace accord, representatives from the political parties and guests. 

Among those in attendance were former Lower House Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann and U Nyan Tun and Dr. Sai Mauk Kham, who served Vice Presidents under the government of President U Thein Sein.
