An additional four million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine purchased from the People’s Republic of China have arrived at Yangon International Airport, according to the ministry of health.
As per the sales contract on the purchase of 24 million doses of the China-made Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine, a total of 16 million doses have arrived including the latest arrival on October 15.
A team led by the head of Yangon Region Medical Services and Public Health Department accepted the vaccine doses.
Till October 15, Myanmar had received a total of 20 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines—two million doses of Covishield, 16 million doses of Sinopharm and two million doses of Sinovac. Moreover, more than 6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines donated by China, India and Russia have already been received, the health ministry reported.
Myanmar is speeding up Covid-19 vaccination in its regions and states to curb the pandemic by forming priority groups.
When all the 24 million Sinopharm vaccine doses arrive from China, 12 million people will be vaccinated this year including those aged between 40 and 64.
The health ministry has urged members of the public to receive full doses of Covid-19 vaccines at respective vaccination points and cooperate with the country’s vaccination effort.
