According to UN Myanmar, 3.4 million people are internally displaced in the country, but only 34% of the required funding for humanitarian needs and response plans has been secured.
The humanitarian crisis in Myanmar continues to worsen with the increasing number of civilian casualties due to conflicts and the need to protect civilians. The conflict between various armed organizations and the Tatmadaw has intensified since October 2023, and since then, 12 of the 15 regions and states have been affected by the fighting. Due to the intense fighting, the number of civilians fleeing their homes has increased to a record number, and the number of displaced people across the country has reached 3.4 million, according to the UN Myanmar.
From the beginning of 2024 to the end of September, humanitarian organizations have provided assistance to nearly three million people, but due to the extremely low availability of funds, they have not been able to provide full assistance as planned. The end of the year has come, but the funding of the 2024 humanitarian needs and response plan has only received 34 percent, which will greatly affect humanitarian organizations' ability to provide emergency assistance, UN Myanmar announced.
