Myanmar evacuates 3,894 citizens via relief flights

Myanmar is evacuated 3,894 citizens stranded in overseas countries using relief flights, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Myanmar Airways International (MAI) is cooperating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to evacuate Myanmar citizens in South Korea and other countries via Incheon international airport, it said.

The eighth relief flight carried back 57 Myanmar citizens in South Korea, 48 citizens from United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Japan, Canada, Spain and Brazil and 27 seafarers on June 16 and staffs from the Myanmar embassy in South Korea helped them at the airport, it said.

Similarly, the MAI evacuated 61 Myanmar citizens in Qatar and 13 citizens from Italy, Brazil, Germany, and Australia via Doha international airport on June 14 and the plane arrived in Yangon at 11 pm.

Up to 3,894 citizens are evacuated till June 16, it said.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs is cooperating with respective ministries and embassies to bring back Myanmar citizens stranded in foreign countries due to COVID-19 pandemic, it said.

They are kept in quarantine for 21 days after they arrived in Yangon.
