The Myanmar embassy in Singapore has been temporarily closed due to the presence of COVID-19 virus in an employee, the embassy said in a statement.

A routine RDT test of staff on December 14 revealed that an employee had been infected with COVID-19 virus. The embassy said it will announce the resumption date for office work.

"We saw the embassy was closed when we went to extend visa. It is not yet known when it will be opened,” said a Myanmar worker in Singapore via online.

The Myanmar Embassy in Singapore has announced that it will continue to provide assistance to those who have been made an appointment to renew their passports during the temporary closure.

Singapore is a major destination for Myanmar migrant workers. Myanmar workers are employed in furniture production and industrial production.

Singapore had the highest number of cases of COVID-19 in early November, with a decline since early December, according to the Worldometer.

One person in Singapore is being reportedly found infected with the Omicron variant, the highest infection rate among COVID-19 strains, according to foreign sources.
