Host Myanmar University team was held by Laos University team in their opening match of ASEAN University Games held in Nay Pyi Taw on December 9.

In another match, Thailand University team thrashed Singapore University team 4-0.

Despite Myanmar team beating their Laos counterparts, their finishing was poor. Most of the players have little international experience and were unable to show their best performances.

Laos attacked the host team with counter attacks and led the game up to its 55th minute. Myanmar equalized after two minutes later and even though Myanmar saw a series of chances at their opponents net, they couldn’t convert them to goals.

The host team will struggle to reach the finals.

The second day of the tournament will be held today. Thailand will meet Malaysia and Myanmar will play against Singapore at Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw. According to the match plan, the first and second days will be held consecutively and Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore teams will play consecutively. There will be five teams playing in the tournament and top two teams will be played at the final. The third and fourth place teams will be played for bronze medal. The host team will have a chance to play at the final if only they beat the Singapore team today. The group matches will play till December 6.
