■ Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing underwent a two-hour emergency surgery after suffering from nerve compression caused by lumbar spondylosis.

■ The surgery was successful, and he is now reported to be in good health and continuing to carry out his state and military duties.

Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing underwent a two-hour emergency operation due to nerve compression resulting from lumbar spondylosis, according to a statement released today (March 23) by the National Defence and Security Council’s information team.

The statement added that the surgery was successful, and he is currently in good health, actively performing his responsibilities for both the country and the Tatmadaw (Military). 

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing — who serves as Acting President, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services — had been suffering from lumbar spondylosis with spinal stenosis. As a result, he underwent a two-hour emergency surgery on March 20, 2026, at Defence Services General Hospital (1,000-bed) in Nay Pyi Taw. The operation was jointly carried out by specialist doctors from India and medical personnel from the Myanmar Tatmadaw, the statement said.
