YANGON- Despite MP Mya Sein, representing Dagon Seikkan Township, beseeched  the boss of Chinese-owned Pu Ywin Garment Factory to rehire boycotting workers from the factory but was rejected, according to sources.

situated in Industrial zone 1 of Dagon Seikkan Township, Yangon Region, for assigning again the 30 employees, it was failed, according to the source.

A discussion about the recents events that transpired involving the Pu Ywin factory boycott, situated in Industrial zone 1 of Dagon Seikkan Township, was held yesterday morning at the Township General Administrative Office and was attended by MP Mya Sein, Deputy General Administrator Min Aung, boss, workers and officials from the labour Arbitration Office.

“Even though we requested sincerely for the factory owner to re-assign the workers but the owner had denied. Now, I will be reporting of this case to my party. Likewise, respective administrative teams had reported regarding the Pu Ywin case to Zaw Aye Maung, Yangon Region Labour Minister and Thein Swe of the Union Minister of Labour, Immigration and Population on October 4th,” MP Mya Sein told to The Daily Eleven.

“MP Mya Sein invited us to discuss about the case at the Township General Administrative Office. MP Mya Sein including officers from Township Labour Arbitration Team and Township Administrative Office urged the owner to reemploy 30 workers. But the owner outright replied that he will never reassign the workers at the factory. We would like to say that further issues arising from this would be concerned with the owner. We are going to hold our strike unless our goal sare met ,” said Thazin Nwe, one of the protest workers.

A group of men allegedly paid-off by the factory clashed violently with the protest workers in the morning of October 15th, the 56th day of the strike.

The protesting workers have filed a complaint against the attack by the hired muscle at the Dagon Seikkan Police Station.

The Myanmar Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey-MICS strongly condemned the violence orchestrated in the crackdown of Pu Ywin protest workers, urging officials to investigate those that had committed the violence and those that had ordered the violence to happen.
