Monsoon wind to enter southern areas of Myanmar: DMH

Southwest monsoon wind may enter southern areas of Myanmar from May 18 to 23, said Dr Kyaw Moe Oo, Director General of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

“The forecast said a low pressure area may form over the Bay of Bengal. Monsoon wind may enter southern parts of Myanmar but the air flows are not changed direction significantly,” he said.

According to the weather forecast for second Dekad of May by the DMH, southwest monsoon is likely to set in southern areas of Myanmar from May 18 to 23. During this period, monsoon will be moderate. A low pressure area may form over the Andaman Sea and South Bay of Bengal. Weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

Rain will be expected above normal in upper Sagaing and Taninthayi regions, Kachin, Kayah, Kayin and Mon states, below normal in lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Yangon and Ayeyawady regions, southern Shan and Rakhine states and about normal in Bago, eastern and northern Shan and Chin states.

Rainy days will be expected 6 to 8 days in upper Sagaing and Taninthayi regions, Kachin, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin and Mon states and about 3 to 5 days in lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon and Ayeyawady regions, Shan and Chin states.

Day temperature will be 1.5 °C above normal temperature of May in lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago and Yangon regions and about normal temperature of May in upper Sagaing, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin and Mon states.
