According to the Ministry of Health, Mon State reported 24 new laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases between June 8 and June 15 — the highest number of infections recorded in any region across the country during that week.
Out of a nationwide total of 52 new confirmed cases within the same period, Mon State accounted for nearly half, highlighting it as the most affected area. The Ministry announced this information on the morning of June 17.
During that week, a total of 2,285 swab samples were tested across the country. The confirmed cases included 24 from Mon State, 17 from Yangon Region, and 7 from Magway Region.
Within Mon State, 23 of the confirmed cases were from Bilin Township and one from Kyaikto Township.
The infection rate rose to 2.28% for the week — nearly double the rate recorded in the first week of June.
The Ministry confirmed that none of the patients required intensive care, and no severe cases or fatalities were reported.
According to a spokesperson from the Mon State Health Department, all confirmed patients in Bilin and Kyaikto Townships have been isolated in designated hospital wards and are receiving medical care. All are reportedly in good health.
The spokesperson added, “Currently, booster vaccinations are being administered to seniors, people with chronic illnesses, and pregnant women at township public hospitals.”
While the Ministry of Health noted that the current situation does not yet pose a significant public health threat, the public is urged to continue practicing personal protective measures and to stay up to date with vaccinations.
