Myanmar Railways has announced that modern air-conditioned DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) express trains will begin direct service on the Yangon–Mandalay route starting May 1.

Operated under the Ministry of Transport, the new service will run as Train No. (5) Up and Train No. (6) Down between Yangon and Mandalay to provide more convenient travel for passengers. Both trains will depart daily at 6:00 a.m.—Train No. (5) from Yangon to Mandalay and Train No. (6) from Mandalay to Yangon.

Along the Yangon–Mandalay route, the trains will stop at Toegyaunggalay, Bago, Nyaunglebin, Taungoo, Pyinmana, Nay Pyi Taw, Yamethin, Thazi, and Kyaukse stations. Ticket prices are set at 48,000 kyats for upper class and 34,000 kyats for first class.

In addition, air-conditioned DEMU express trains will continue operating on the Yangon–Nay Pyi Taw–Yangon route. Train No. (31) Up and Train No. (32) Down will run daily, departing at 10:00 a.m. from both Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw. These trains will stop at Toegyaunggalay, Bago, Daik-U, Taungoo, and Pyinmana stations, with fares remaining unchanged.

Another set of DEMU express trains, Train No. (7) Up and Train No. (8) Down, will also operate on the same route, departing daily at 12:30 p.m. from both Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw. Stops will include Toegyaunggalay, Bago, Phyu, Taungoo, and Pyinmana stations, with ticket prices unchanged.

Myanmar Railways also stated that as passenger demand increases, it plans to expand train services and add more carriages to ensure smoother and more convenient travel for the public.
