Military chief, military personnel test negative for Covid-19

Senior military personnel including Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, officers, other ranks and their families from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) underwent Covid-19 tests and no one was found positive for the coronavirus, the office reported on May 12. 

Covid-19 testing for them started on May 10. Till May 12, medical examinations were carried out for over 55 percent of senior military officers including the military chief, officers, other ranks and their families. Moreover, those who had a travel history about one month ago also have Covid-19 tests. All of them tested negative, the office reported. 

“Tests were carried out in the compound of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army)” said Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun, secretary of the Tatmadaw (Military) True News Information Team. 

After a soldier serving at Nay Pyi Taw Command had tested positive for Covid-19, the military announced on May 4 that measures would be taken to trace contacts with the patient and restrict their movements. 

A total of 363 people who had contact with the infected patient were put in quarantine and underwent tests at Nay Pyi Taw Defence Services Hospital on May 4. They all tested negative. 

Moreover, 56 others who had business contact with the patients also tested negative, the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services reported.
