In order to accomodate 20 more COVID-19 confirmed patients at the Meikhtila District General Hospital, an extension wing is being constructed urgently with expenses paid by Myatnoe Piti Social Welfare association.

Dr Nyunt Sein, Chief Medical Officer of Meikhtila District General hospital said that, "responsible personnel want to keep confirmed patients in hospitals rather than in SHS (4), and so an extension wing is being constructed. At the moment there is no room to accomodate confirmed patients, and so an extension is being constructed next to the present wing. It is to accommodate 20 confirmed patients. It measures 70' x 25'. One floor will be constructed with steel. As a toilet, the present four rooms will be used.  It is projected to accomodate 40 patients. Should there be more patients another place has to be arranged. SHS (4)  has water as well electricity. There is good fresh air. As this hospital  is convenient to come and go the extension is attached to it. At the moment confirmed patients are temporarily kept in SHS (4), and doctors and medical workers too are there. If need arises for treatment in the hospital they can be called over. The extension is built with the help of a donor, namely, Myatnoe Piti social welfare association. The estimated cost is 17 million kyats. This includes material as well as labor charges. The donor will provide water and electrical connections and water basins. The construction will finish in a week. Pipelines for oxygen supply will be attached gradually. Arrangements for connections have been done for this in the interior of the extension  said the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Nyunt Sein.

As of 25 Oct, there have been 27 COVID-19 confirmed patients taking treatment in Meikhtila District general hospital and SHS(4), and more than 200 persons are in quarantine in SHS (1) quarantine centre and college quarantine centre.

In Meikhtila town four COVID-19 confirmed patients were found on 9 Sept. at the Mondaing village quarantine centre and Aungzeya quarantine centre. Till date a total of 68 COVID-19 confirmed patients have been treated at the Meikhtila District General hospital, and 41 recovered and were discharged from hospital.
