The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) announced that a joint operation by the Drug Eradication Police Squad resulted in the seizure of more than 1.6 million stimulant tablets worth 4.945 billion kyats and 101kg of heroin in various locations in Mandalay Region.

The operation, which took place between 8 and 10 January, 2024, was based on a tipoff that a large consignment of drugs was being transported from Shan State to Mandalay Region and then to Kachin State for sale.

The police first raided a warehouse in Pyigyidagon township on 8 January and confiscated 9,240 plastic soap boxes containing 1.11 million stimulant tablets and 92.4kg of heroin from two suspects, Sar Oo and Mai Aik Kyin.

The police then continued their investigation and arrested Hla Thein, who was found with 4.4kg of heroin at his residence in Chanmyathazi township on 9 January.

On 10 January, the police searched the farm of Hein Lat and Ma Aye Aye Aung in Patheingyi township and seized another 4.4kg of heroin and 500,000 tablets of stimulants.

The CCDAC said that the perpetrators of the crime will face legal action according to the existing laws, and that the authorities are still looking for other links in the drug trafficking network.
