Low pressure area on the Bay of Bengal may intensify into a depression: DMH

A low pressure area may form over the Bay of Bengal and it may further intensify into a depression. Southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw from northern Myanmar areas between September 13 and 18, central Myanmar areas between September 19 and 24. Monsoon will be moderate. Weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy over the north of the Bay of Bengal, according to second ten days weather forecast for Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

“A low pressure area may form in the second ten days of September and upper areas of Myanmar may have more rain. Southwest monsoon will be withdrawn from the northern areas and rain will be poured down between September 11 and 20. Water will be flowed from upper areas to lower areas and if it will meet with high tide, water levels in Pathein, Ngatinechaung and Ngawon rivers will be increased. River water from middle areas of Myanmar also flowed to lower areas,” said Meteorologist Chit Kyaw.

Rain or thundershowers will be expected above normal in Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states and about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway regions, Kachin, Chin, Shan and Kayah states.

Rainy days will be expected about 8 to 10 days in  upper Sagaing, Bago, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Chin, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states and about 5 to 7 days in lower Sagaing, Mandalay and Yangon regions, Kachin, (Southern and Eastern) Shan, Kayah states and about 2 to 4 days in Nay Pyi Taw, Magway Region and northern Shan State.

The water levels of Ayeyarwady River are forecast to rise above the present water levels by about 3 to 5 feet at Myitkyina, Bhamo, Shwegu, Katha and Thabeikkyin, and about 1 to 3 feet at Mandalay, Sagaing, Myinmu, Pakokku, Nyaung-U, Chauk, Minbu, Magway, Aunglan, Pyay, Seiktha, Hinthada and Zalun. The water levels of Chindwin River are forecast to rise above the present water levels by about 3 to 5 feet at Hkamti, Homalin, Phaungpyin, Mawlaik, Kalewa, Minkin, Kani and Monywa, it said.
