76 monks from the Pauk Sein Monastic School in Ohn Chaw Village, Patheingyi Township, Mandalay, reportedly suffered suspected food poisoning on the morning of August 26.

Starting at around 10 a.m., the monks experienced vomiting and diarrhea. A total of 76 monks were taken to hospitals for medical treatment, with 30 sent to Mandalay General Hospital and 46 to Kyauk Mee Township Hospital.

“We offered tea-leaf rice, fish-ball salad, chicken soup and fried chili as the morning meal. The symptoms started at around 9 a.m., and they began vomiting the food. Of the 48 monks who were taken to Kyauk Mee Township Hospital, 37 have recovered and been discharged. The others are also in good condition, so there is no need to worry,” said a responsible official from the Setana Mon Social Assistance Association (Ohn Chaw).
