Local fuel prices jump by 80%-90% in eight months

Local fuel prices increased to over Ks1,210 per liter on September 21 with an 80% to 90% increase in all fuels available in market over the past eight months, according to local filling stations.

The fuel prices in the local market on September 21 were Ks1,210 per liter of diesel, Ks1,215 per liter of premium diesel, Ks1,215 per liter of 92 Ron octane and Ks1,235 per 95 Ron octane.

In contrast, the prices on February 2 were Ks660 per liter of diesel, Ks670 per liter of premium diesel, Ks625 per liter of 92 Ron octane and Ks750 per 95 Ron octane, according to the data released by Myanmar Petroleum Trade Association (MPTA).  

In comparison with the prices in February, the current fuel prices increased to 80%-90% with over 83% in diesel, over 80% in premium diesel, 94% in 92 Ron octane and 64% in 95 Ron octane. 

Myanmar imports around 6 million tons of fuels yearly, according to the ministry of commerce.

Over the seven months of this fiscal year, just over 2.7 million tons of fuels worth US$1.2 billion were imported, seeing a decline of over 1 million tons when compared to the same period of last fiscal, said a ministry official.
