Surgeons are going to transplant a liver to two children of one-and-half years-old at Yangon Children Hospital at the end of this month.
The move came from the ceremony to present cash donation for liver transplantation held at Yangon Children Hospital.
“The patients are Maung Phone Myint Myat and Maung Myat Phone Htet. The former is one year and four months old and the latter, one year and five months old. The latter is suffering from Biliaty Atresia. This time surgical operation will be costly. Diagnosis before surgical operation, medicines necessary in time of surgical operation, diagnosis after surgical operation and medicines to be taken after operation all need money,” said Dr Su Su Dwe, Medical Superintending of Yangon Children Hospital.
One-time operation will cost about K 25 million. The Ministry of Health and Sports will be responsible for paying the money spent during the period of the surgical operation with the help of State’s funds, said Dr Su Su Dwe.
The surgical operation will be jointly performed by Myanmar Liver Transplantation Group and Kyushu University.
According to the patients’ record of Yangon Children Hospital, there are average 30 children under one year old who have got obstructive jaundice arrived at the surgical ward. 20 of them are suffering from Biliaty Atresia.
Yangon Children Hospital is a 550-bedded one, where 550 in-patients and 80 to 100 out-patients undergo medical treatment.
