Sale of Myanmar gems with Myanmar Kyat will take place in Nay Pyi Taw from January 2 to 7 in 2020 and only Myanmar citizens are allowed to make purchases, said Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Ohn Win.

The minister revealed said so during a meeting of the central committee for Myanmar Gems Emporium held at Mani Yadana Jade Hall in Nay Pyi Taw on December 9, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Information.

He said, at the event, only Myanmar citizens will be allowed to attend and buy gems and jewels. He called for systematic transactions, safety measures and review of strong and weak points in the previous gems sales before the coming sale.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is giving permission in accord with the gems law to hold gems sales with Myanmar Kyat under the supervision of region and state governments and under the leadership of Myanmar Gems Enterprise and gems entrepreneurs.

The minister commented that local gems entrepreneurs will become dutiful citizens by paying required taxes at gems sales.

Then, rounds of discussion came at the meeting and the union minister, the deputy minister and officials gave necessary instructions.

Holding such gems sales with Myanmar Kyat is aimed at creating local job opportunities and preventing illegal gems sales abroad.
