The Karen National Union (KNU) issued a statement on June 16 saying that it would investigate the news that Karen National Defence Organization (KNDO) killed civilians in Myawady District, Kayin State, by forming an enquiry team.

The news has spread on news media since June 13 that KNDO murdered 25 civilians working on the project of constructing U-hu creek bridge between Kanelay and Mawkhi in Myawady District, which is under KNU control, on May 31.

The statement said the KNU does respect the Geneva Convention that cannot accept killing of civilians during armed clashes. Regarding such cases, the KNU has its laws to take legal action, the statement pointed out.

Therefore, the KNU (Central) will form an enquiry team to launch an investigation into the case in order to expose the truth, the statement said.
