Htantalan Township National League for Democracy chairman Si Zar Kyone has put up his resignation letter, NLD’s CEC member Dr Myo Nyunt has confirmed.

A letter signed by the township NLD chair went viral online on the night of November 26. The letter read that six companies that competed in the tenders opened by the Chin State Education Department are NLD supporters for its election victory in the 2020 general election.

Si Zar Kyone submitted his resignation while the case is still in the hands of the NLD (Central) after the state disciplinary enforcement committee had investigated details.

“We are reviewing the whole case on a political basis. We have not approved his resignation,” Dr Myo Nyunt said.

The state disciplinary committee investigated the case in accord with the law but the central NLD has considered both legal and political affairs for the case, he added.

Si Zar Kyone, who gave endorsements to the tender bidding companies, has also won a parliamentary seat for lower house in the November 8 election.

Dr Myo Nyut said the investigation into the case on a political basis was not the reason that he is a parliamentary representative-elect but the case happened in an ethnic area.

The letter carries names and tender Nos. of the six companies. In the letter, Si Zar Kyone said they were ardent supporters of NLD for its election success.

Dr Myo Nyunt said the township NLD chair did it of his own accord without calling an executive meeting.

Chin State NLD committee for ensuring election victory issued a statement on November 27 instructing that any fund or donation with strings attached is not be accepted.

The statement also says the state government will surely carry out the tender process in accord with the rules and regulations.
