Horrific crash on Mawlamyine-Thanbyuzayet Road leaves 32 injured, including five children

Traffic accident occurred on Mawlamyine-Thanbyuzayet highway near Latat Village in Mudon Township injured 32 people including 5 children after it over sped at the around 2:15 pm on January 31, according to social organizations.

The vehicle was carrying families from bricks making industry in Naing Lon Village, Mudon Township heading to pay a pilgrimage to Win Sein Tawya Monastery. The vehicle over-sped near Khat Ya Khat Yu sitting Buddha image near Latat Village, according to a man from the social organization.

“There were more than 15 children ranging from 2 years to 15 years and over 10 adults totaling 32 people. The car turned over as the weights of the passengers were more than the amount it can carry,” said a man from the social organization.

The injured were sent to Kamarwat stationed hospital and from that, sent to Mudon hospital by social organizations’ vehicles.

The 13 people who were seriously injured were sent to Mawlamyine hospital via Mudon hospital. Five children and a man who were slightly injured were sent to their native place in Naing Lon Village by ambulances, according to social organizations.

Car accidents were frequently happened in Mawlamyine-Mudon-Thanbyuzayet highway. On January12, 2024, a ferry from a university was overturned in Thanbyuzayet-Mawlamyine highway in front of Azin plantation near Kawkapon Village injuring 13 students, according to social organizations.
