Highway accidents kill five, injury 26 in February

There were 27 traffic accidents on Yangon-Mandalay Highway in late February, killing five men and injuring 26 others, according to Nay Pyi Taw Highway Traffic Police.

An official of  Highway Traffic Police Office said: “A total of 27 traffic accidents were reported on the highway. Twenty-six people—20 males and six females—were injured. Five males died due to the accident. Careless driving, tyre bursts and motorbike are the major causes of accidents in February.”

There were 25 traffic accidents on the highway in January this year.  In two months, the accidents killed 12 people and injured 41 others.

Last year, there were 524 traffic accidents on the highway, leaving 108 people dead and 1,019 others injured.

In 2019, the monthly average traffic accident was 43. The monthly traffic-related death was 12 while the monthly traffic-related injury was 84.
