The helicopter carrying Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye was attacked by gun firing while returning from Rakhine State, Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun of Tatmadaw (Military) True News Information Team confirmed.
In his tour, the minister went to Sittway-Buthidaung-Maungdaw together with Rakhine State Chief Minister Nyi Pu on February 19. On their return, the helicopter was shot by an AA (Arakan Army) group.
“The tour started at 10.45 am. Dr Win Myat Aye’s helicopter was attacked. It was military helicopter flying from Sittway to Buthidaung. The belly of the helicopter was hit by two bullets. No one was injured,” said Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun.
The helicopter managed to land in Buthidaung without having any serious damage. It continued to fly for other trips and arrived in Sittway at about 3 pm.
