Heavy rains cause tree collapses, one death in Myeik

Heavy rains have caused trees to collapse in the town of Myeik, Taninthayi Region, killing a man, according to local sources.

There were heavy rains and high winds in Myeik on July 18. Some trees collapsed and a man named U Than Zaw was killed after a coconut tree had fallen onto him.

“This morning, there were heavy rains and strong winds. The raining period was not long but some trees fell down while the roofs of some house were blown off. In Kalwin Village, a man died after a coconut tree fell onto him,” said a local resident.

The body of 55-year-old man was sent to Defence Services Hospital No.5.

These days, Taninthayi Region has experiencing heavy rains while there are strong winds at sea.

Some low-lying areas in the town of Kawthoung are also in flood, local sources said.
