The free clinic run by Hanthawady U Win Tin Foundation is in need of funds and medicine, said clinic in-charge Tun Kyi.

He disclosed the information during a ceremony to accept K300,000 donated by Win Oo from Dala Township, Yangon Region, for the clinic.

Hanthawady U Win Tin Foundation established by late veteran journalist Hanthawady U Win Tin opened the free clinic which provides free healthcare every day for political prisoners and their families. But now the clinic is in need of funds and medicine.

"When U Win Tin was alive, there were a lot of donors. But now there are only a few. With the increasing number of patients but a few donors, we need more medicines. I am now happy to see a donor from Dala Township. I hope for more donors," said Tun Kyi.

He stressed the need for the government to improve the socio-economy of former political prisoners and their families by launching rehabilitation programmes. Only then, can new generations who are interested in politics emerge, he added.

Since March 12, 2012, Hanthawady U Win Tin Foundation has provided K203.1 million to 168 jailed political prisoners and 678 former political prisoners and journalists.

In cooperation with local donors, the foundation is providing education and health assistance for families  of ex-political prisoners and finding jobs for them.
