Gunfire by armed men at Myawady Bank in Ye leaves two dead

Some armed men came and opened fire at the Myawady Bank in Ye, Mon State, at about 12.45pm on 26 September, killing a bank security guard and a security force member, local reports said.

 One resident of the town said that four gunmen on two motorcycles arrived at Myawady Bank on Bogyoke road, Yangyiaung ward and opened fire with small arms.

 He further said that with security forces deployed in front of the bank, there was exchange of fire. After that the armed men drove away towards the back of the bank.

 In the incident one bank security guard and one security force member sustained gunshot wounds and died on the way to Mawlamyine Hospital, said the resident of the town.

 As government offices, staff and residents in Ye have been frequently attacked and killed, Ye Township, situated within the Southeast Command, has been under military rule since February 2, as stated by the State Administration Council.

In addition, shootings have occurred quite often on Ye-Thanphyuzayat road, and passengers have often been hit, according to passengers and local residents.
