Groundnut in the Mandalay market fetching good prices

Chinese merchants pay good prices to groundnuts entered the Mandalay market recently according to Mandalay peanuts dealers.

Last year when the Chinese New Year was approaching, groundnut and sesame prices were stable and even fell.  This year, Chinese dealers pay good prices according to the Vice-chair of Mandalay wholesale market Myo Swe.

“Chinese pay Ks.3500 to a viss of a good quality groundnut and the low quality to Ks.3000. The groundnut in the market is from Shwebo and Myinmu and is of good quality. Chinese are buying not for the purpose of making oil but for making food at their new year. But for the sesame prices, it doesn’t get good prices,” said Myo Swe.

In the Mandalay groundnut market, there are not only peanuts from Shan State but also from Nay Pyi taw, Tatkone, Pyinmanar and Pakkoku Townships. In the early week of January a viss of groundnut to Ks.3000 and now it gets Ks.3500.

Mandalay wholesale market was closed for four months due to COVID-19 in the second wave. It was opened on January 21 under the instructions by the Ministry of Health and Sports.
