Gov’t to spend over USD 188 million constructing Yangon-Dala Bridge

YANGON- Government will be spending US$ 188.174 million constructing the Yangon-Dala Bridge Project, a project which will also mark the friendship between Korea (South) and Myanmar, according to the Ministry of Construction.

It was expected to cost US$ 168.174 million - a loan of over US$ 137.833 million from South Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund and US$30.341 million from Myanmar.

However, due to a change of in the style of bridge, the estimated cost shot up by another US$ 20 million with both sides now in negotiations for Korea to cover the extra costs as part of the loan.

The stake-driving ceremony of Yangon-Dala Bridge will be held on December 23rd and the construction of the bridge will start in January next year, according to the press conference by the Construction Ministry in Dala Township, Yangon on November 24th. 

“There will be a four-lane motor road and the type is a Steel Beam Suspension Bridge. The Project will be completed during three and half years. The construction tasks may  get finished by mid-year of 2022,” said Kyaw Kaung Cho, Deputy Director General of the Bridge Department under the Ministry of Construction.

The water clearance area of the bridge is at 49 meters in height and 370 meters in width. The bridge design is being drafted by the Korean Consultancy Company.

On June 17, more than 1,000 people staged a demonstration, calling for an immediate implementation of the bridge project.
