Gov’t, NCA -SEAO plan to hold 4th Union Peace Conference

YANGON- The government and NCA-SEAO(Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement-Signatory, Ethnic Armed Organizations) scheduled to hold the 4th round of Union Peace Conference-21st Century Panglong in the second week of August, says Khun Myint Tun, Vice-Chairman of Pao National Liberation Organization (PNLO).

A meeting between government and NCA-SEAO was held in Yangon from June 23rd to 25th aiming to implement the decisions being laid down in the 8th Joint Implementing Coordination Meeting-JICM.

It was attended by Col. Sai Ngin,  a leader of NCA-SEAO, who also made concluding remarks through Online Video Conferencing. 

Kyun Myint Tun also said that they decided to hold UPDJC and JICM before holding of Union Peace Conference.

“We, government and NCA-SEAO, held a discussion. We didn’t make the final decision. We are going to collect the approvals of the groups. However, we already scheduled to hold a conference in the second week of August,” said PNLO’s vice-chairman Khun Myint Tun.

A meeting decided to hold a meeting again between government and NCA-SEAO from July 2nd to 4th. On the occasion, a date for the holding of 4th Union Peace Conference may be appeared exactly, according to Khun Myint Tun.

The government suggested ethnic armed groups to reduce the numbers of delegates from government, parliament, military, political parties, and armed groups because the Union Conference will be held during the COVID-19 outbreak.
