Fuel has become increasingly difficult to purchase in Taunggyi, with reports indicating that prices on the black market have reached as high as 10,000 kyats per litre, according to sources.
In Taunggyi and Aye Tharyar industrial zone, gasoline is being sold for 10,000 kyats per litre, and it is being purchased through a contact in the black market.
In Taunggyi, there were queues full of motorcycles waiting at BOC, Denko, and Max fuel stations, and gas stations in the neighborhood closed when they ran out of fuel and reopened when they had fuel. Some gas stations in the neighborhood posted signs saying they would only sell with QR codes, and they did not sell motorcycles without a license.
“Some people can’t wait long enough and buy a bottle of fuel outside. It is known that many of the people in the queue are those who pumped out fuel and resell it. Those who really need it are having a hard time,” said a motorcyclist in Taunggyi Township.
In addition, local residents reported that only Sanpya petrol station in Aye Tharyar town, Taunggyi Township, is selling fuel, while other petrol stations have closed their doors.
In addition, in Shwenyaung Township, Shwe Takha, Denko and BOC petrol stations are selling fuel, and other petrol stations are not selling when they run out of fuel.
