An additional four million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine purchased from the People’s Republic of China arrived at Yangon International Airport on October 2, according to the ministry of health.
Myanmar is speeding up Covid-19 vaccination in its regions and states to curb the pandemic by forming priority groups. As per the sales contract on the purchase of 24 million doses of the China-made Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine, an additional four million doses arrived at Yangon.
A team led by the head of Yangon Region Medical Services and Public Health Department accepted the vaccine doses, which will be distributed to the regions and states by land, by air and by military aircraft.
Till October 2, Myanmar had received a total of 18 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines—two million doses of Covishield, 14 million doses of Sinopharm and two million doses of Sinovac.
Moreover, more than 5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines donated by China, India and Russia have already received, the health ministry reported.
Till October 1, there were 3,863,344 people who had received full vaccine doses and 4,400,813 who had received first doses. Therefore, a total of 12,127,501 doses have been administered in the country.
The health ministry has urged members of the public to receive full doses of Covid-19 vaccines at respective vaccination points and cooperate with the country’s vaccination effort.
