Authorities have been instructed to take legal action against four men who violated the discipline over the COVID-19 issue in Sagaing Region, said Region Minister for Social Affairs Dr Zaw Win. 

The men will be sued under the disaster management law, the anti-infectious disease law and the immigration law. 

“In Tamu, authorities gave verbal and written warnings that a wedding reception must not be staged. But they held it. Authorities have been instructed to take action against the son and his father from Tamu. Another man is from Ayadaw Township. Action must be taken against him as he punched the ward administrator. Another man fled from Ye U to Ayadaw where he was arrested. Action will be taken against him. We need public participation at this time,” the minister said. 

He added his government will hold a cabinet meeting for an essential lockdown if COVID-19 cases are found in the region. If lockdown comes, restaurants and supermarkets will remain opened, he said. 

According to figures available on March 29, six people in the region had tested negative for the coronavirus.
