Former Information Minister U Ye Htut arrested and charged under Section 505 (A)

U Ye Htut, who served as Union Minister for Information under the government of U Thein Sein, has reportedly been arrested under Section 505 (A) of the Penal Code of Myanmar.

An official from the Yangon Region Military Command filed a complaint at the Ahlon Township Police Station against U Ye Htut accusing him of spreading false news with intent to cause public panic and persuading government employees to commit criminal acts. He was arrested on October 28. 

There have been reports that the police station arrested and charged him under Section 505 (A). He has reportedly been remanded in custody in Insein Prison, but it could not be independently verified.

U Ye Htut wrote a comment and response to the address, phone number and positions of a retired military officer on his Facebook page a few days ago, attracting a lot of criticism of from the military community.

U Ye Htut also served as a lieutenant colonel in the army.

The media asked the information team of the State Administration Council about his arrest, but there was no reply.
