A total of five voters, who casted votes twice, from three regions including Yangon are charged under Section 59 of election law, announced by the Union Election Commission on November 11.
Three of them are from Yangon Region and the other two are from Mandalay and Ayeyawady regions, according to the announcement.
It said Kyi Zin from Ayoekone ward, Tamwe Township casted his vote at the No.5 polling station in the ward and also voted in No.8 polling station in No.22 ward, South Dagon Township.
Phyu Phyu Win from Hlegu Township and Soe Lwin from Shwepyithar Township were found to have voted twice in different polling stations in their township.
Furthermore, Kyaw Soe Khine, lived in Kabo Village, Tada-U Township, Kyaukse District, Mandalay Region cast vote in No.1 polling station in his village and No.1 polling station in Kyaswe Village.
Myint Win from Daungchaung Village, Kokko Village Tract, Labutta Township, Ayeyawady Region cast vote in No.2 polling station in Kanaung Village and No.3 polling station in Malaygyikone Village, Kanyinkone Village Tract, it said.
Kyi Zin, Kyaw Soe Khine, Soe Lwin, Phyu Phyu Win and Myint Win have been charged under Section 59 of election law in respective police stations, it said.
The election law dictates that whoever is found guilty of one of the following acts under Section 59 shall, on conviction be punishable with imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or with fine not exceeding one hundred thousand kyats or with both.
The UEC announced on November 8 and 9 that voters who cast vote twice in Hpasawng Township, Kayah State, Natogyi Township, Mandalay Region, Ingapu and Maubin townships in Ayeyawady Region, Phaungbyin Township, Sagaing Region and Nanhkan Township, Shan State have been charged under Section 59 of election law.
Voters, who possessed a fake stamp which don’t have a UEC mark on it, who made a protest by holding a fake stamp, who cast votes on behalf of someone and who tore up their voting slips, had been charged under election law. A total of 28 people including members of village election sub-commission, 100-household administrators and election candidates are charged under Election Law, Penal Code and Peaceful Assembly and Peaceful Procession Law.
