An explosion reportedly occurred near the Yangon regional office of the People’s Party.

According to reports, the explosion took place at around 7:30 p.m. on December 21, between two buildings beside the staircase of the People’s Party’s Yangon regional office. Although no one was injured in the incident, a party campaign sign was damaged and the windows of a parked vehicle were shattered, with bomb fragments striking and damaging the car’s body, said U Ye Kyaw Swar, a member of the party’s Central Committee and an Alon constituency candidate.

“The bomb was not a sound bomb. It was powerful. All four windows of the car were shattered, and fragments hit the body of the vehicle. There were no passersby at the time, so no one was injured,” he said.

The People’s Party’s Yangon regional office is located on Upper Pazundaung Road in Mingalar Taungnyunt Township.

“This is a security-related issue that requires caution in connection with the election. The main target appears to be the People’s Party. It seems to be a targeted threat or a warning. So far, no group or individual has claimed responsibility on social media,” U Ye Kyaw Swar added.
